Trauma Plaques is a series of wooden craft plaques that depict my own traumatic memories and dreams. This work was inspired by my experiences in psychotherapy, as well as by reading works such as The Body Keeps the Score by Bassel Van Der Kolk and It Didn't Start with You by Mark Wolynn. By physically drawing out my traumatic experiences, I am trying to reclaim my memories and investigate my dreams. The wooden plaques, usually used in crafting for painting portraits or landscapes, are commonly found within the home. I am disrupting the expectation of pleasant imagery by including my own intergenerational, traumatic experiences, while also subtly critiquing the idea of the "happy family".
