Half of One and Six of the Other is a documentary-based series that began as my Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis at OCAD University in 2015. The work follows my mother, Louise, as she navigates the physical and cognitive decline caused by dementia, revealing the increasing difficulty she faced performing everyday tasks such as eating or walking. The series also reflects the profound impact her illness had on our family, particularly on me as her youngest daughter, as I witnessed the ways dementia reshaped her identity and altered the rhythms of our daily lives. As her dementia progressed rapidly, her abilities became significantly impaired. Louise passed away in 2017.Â
